Let Yourself Fly, Let Yourself Bloom

$2,500.00

Materials: Mixed-media on canvas (oil, acrylic, sand, modeling paste and others)
Dimensions: 36” x 48”

A young colleague once asked me how I managed to move beyond my old team. She was burned out, searching for a way forward.

Her question stayed with me because I realized that I had moved beyond more than a team. I had moved beyond the belief that I needed to remain a certain kind of person—a particular title, identity, or defined version of myself.

This painting explores the freedom that comes when we embrace the complexity of who we are.

We can be soft and fierce. Grounded and restless. Structured and spontaneous. We can belong to one place while still becoming something new.

The painting brings these contradictions together through soft, buttery passages layered with edgy, sandy textures. Flowers emerge from—and dissolve back into—the surrounding movement, while dynamic brushstrokes create a sense of continual expansion, as though everything is simultaneously flowing, flying, becoming.

We are not meant to exist in only one form.

At any moment, we can choose to flow—or to fly.

This painting is part of The Light We Carry, ten new paintings about the light we hold on to, and the light we pass on.

Each one began with a moment from my life: a question from a burned-out colleague, my son comparing his love for me to fried chicken, a friend I lost who promised to become a blue star, my grandmother telling me I was special. On the canvas, those moments became flowers. They rise out of rugged, sandy textures, dissolve into drifting color, and open again.

Where The Genesis of Bloom asked where we belong, this collection asks what we carry with us. Softness and strength. Memory and hope. The kindness of the people who shaped us. Even through dark seasons, that light stays, and it finds its way out.

All works are original, one-of-a-kind, mixed media on canvas.
