If you could choose between an easy path and a difficult one, which would you choose?
We often wish for a life untouched by struggle, believing that ease must be happiness. Yet someone once told me that a life shaped by challenges is a life richly rewarded.
I wanted to believe that.
But when you are the one walking through uncertainty, the questions become louder than the promises.
Will this ever end? Am I moving in the right direction? Is there really light waiting beyond what I cannot yet see?
I don’t think life offers certain answers.
Perhaps certainty was never the destination.
Perhaps the reward is not waiting at the end of the journey, but quietly revealing itself in every small step forward—in every moment we choose to keep growing, even without guarantees.
Like a rose that blooms before the sky has fully cleared, we don’t need certainty to become who we are meant to be.
We only need the courage to keep blooming through uncertainty.
This painting is part of The Light We Carry, ten new paintings about the light we hold on to, and the light we pass on.
Each one began with a moment from my life: a question from a burned-out colleague, my son comparing his love for me to fried chicken, a friend I lost who promised to become a blue star, my grandmother telling me I was special. On the canvas, those moments became flowers. They rise out of rugged, sandy textures, dissolve into drifting color, and open again.
Where The Genesis of Bloom asked where we belong, this collection asks what we carry with us. Softness and strength. Memory and hope. The kindness of the people who shaped us. Even through dark seasons, that light stays, and it finds its way out.
All works are original, one-of-a-kind, mixed media on canvas.
